Obituary

Nancy Elizabeth Cook, born Nancy Elizabeth Aleshire, passed into glory on Wednesday December 3rd at her home in Landrum, South Carolina. Nancy was born on January 12, 1951 in Germantown, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

Nancy was preceded in death by her parents, William and Elizabeth Aleshire.

Surviving is her husband, Rev. Dr. John Cook; her children, Cary Callahan, Adam Cook, Kevin Cook, Jonathan Cook, and her many grandchildren whom she loved so dearly, Justin Smith, Alexa Waldron, Jayden Hickey, Jachin Cook, Jack Cook, Henry Cook, Maxine Cook, Madison Cook, and her newest grandson, Aksel Cook.

Nancy will be remembered by her family and friends and anyone who met her as a devout woman of faith, a person of incredible joy, and someone full of the energy and life of a young child. She loved her family dearly. Her children and grandchildren were her joy and delight. Yet one could also say anyone who met Nancy felt loved and cared for immediately. Nancy loved people and wanted to share the hope and joy she found in Jesus Christ with everyone she met. She loved and served her church, Grace Mills River.

John and Nancy began pastoral ministry in 1983 in Ballston Spa, New York. After retirement from ministry in the Atlanta Metro area, they retired to Lake Lanier in Landrum, SC in 2023. This was Nancy’s dream place to live and she delighted in fixing up their retirement home.

Nancy will be missed deeply by her family and friends. Her absence will leave a hole in the lives of her family and friends in regular phone calls, homemade spaghetti and meatballs, homemade cookies, overt decorations at holidays (all holidays), thoughtful gifts, and as a companion in the kayak.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you give donations in her memory to two ministries near and dear to Nancy’s heart: Black Mountain Children’s Home in Black Mountain, North Carolina(https://www.blackmountainhome.org/), or Northern Frontier Boys Camp in North River, Adirondack, New York (https://northernfrontier.org/donate/)

A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, December 8, 2025 at McFarland Funeral Chapel, in Tryon, NC officiated by Pastor Patrick Lafferty.

The family will receive friends prior to the service from 1:00 p.m. to 1:50 p.m.

Burial will be at Tryon City Cemetery following the service.
