MILL SPRING, NC - Melissa Faye Barnette Ormond, 67, of Regan Jackson Rd., Mill Spring, NC went home to be with the Lord Thursday evening, January 3, 2008 at her home. Born in Polk County, NC, she was the daughter of the late Joe and Bertha Jackson Barnette. She was a loving mother, grandmother and sister who continued to be independent and strong until the end. Surviving are one son, Rex Burgess (Cynthia) of Fairview, NC; two daughters, Julie Cole (Bruce) of Saluda, NC and Heather Ravan (Danny) of Columbus, NC; one brother, Clarence Barnette of Homosassa, FL; two sisters, Darryl Taylor and Carolyn Mabry both of Hendersonville, NC. Also surviving are 10 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by four sisters, Mamie Bailey, Mary Price, Martha Fowler and Frances Pritchard and three brothers, Bud, Tommy and Curtis Barnette. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, January 6, 2008 in the McFarland Funeral Chapel in Tryon, NC with Rev. Albert Teague officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant Grove Baptist Church Cemetery in Rutherfordton, NC. The family will receive friends Saturday evening from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the funeral chapel. At other times, the family will be at the home, 174 Regan Jackson Rd., Mill Spring, NC.
