SALUDA, NC - Max Gordon, 68, of Saluda, NC passed away, Saturday afternoon, February 21, 2009 in Spartanburg Hospital for Restorative Care in Spartanburg, SC following a brief illness. A native of Saluda, NC, he was the son of the late Henry and Eula Mae Guice Gordon. Mr. Gordon worked for J.P. Stevens in Tuxedo, NC for 25 years until it's closure. For the last 20 years, he has been a paper carrier in Saluda for Times-News and done yard maintenance in the Saluda area. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Alvin Gordon. Surviving is his wife of 45 years, Dorothy Carswell Gordon of the home; three sons, Keith Gordon of Rutherfordton, NC, David Gordon and his wife Deborah of Zirconia, NC and Rob Gordon of Saluda, NC; a brother, Bruce Gordon of Saluda, NC; two sisters, Llewellyn Pace of Kentucky, and Mary Stepp and husband Arthur of Saluda, NC. Also surviving are 10 grandchildren and several nieces and nephews and a sister-in-law, Geneva Gordon. A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, February 24, 2009 in the Grace Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery in Saluda, NC with Rev. Emerald Gordon officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Dorothy C. Gordon, 234 Overbrook Drive, Saluda, NC 28773 to offset medical expenses.
