Mary Flynn Greene, 96, of Tryon passed away, Saturday afternoon, March 9, 2019 at LaurelWoods Assisted Living.Born October 18, 1922 in Polk County, Mary was the oldest child of Alice Cantrell Flynn and Grady Flynn. March 8, 1944, she married Howard Belton Greene, her life partner for 72 years until his death February 13, 2017.Mary was a dedicated employee of the Polk County Health Department for 47 years. She was a faithful member of Tryon First Baptist Church. Mary enjoyed shopping trips with family and friends, knitting, reading and crossword puzzles.Mary was a classy, smart, organized, creative woman. But most of all, she will be remembered as a generous, loving, caring, thoughtful aunt by her many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and great-great nieces and great-great nephews.In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her siblings, Frances Prince, Sara Calvert, Henry Flynn, Jr. and Dorothy Solesbee.A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, March 12, 2019 in Polk Memorial Gardens with Dr. Jeff Harris officiating.Memorials may be made to Tryon First Baptist Church, PO Box 1287, Tryon, NC 28782.
