Mary Elaine Higgins Goodwin was born in Floydada, Texas, on February 18, 1938, to Bernie and Opal Higgins. She died in White Oak Medical on April 18 after a brief illness.She is survived by her brother-in-law Garland (Fran) Goodwin, their children Thomas and Sharon, dear friends Jim and Helen Clement, Jess Fierro, who was like another son to her, several cousins and friends.Mary was predeceased by her parents, her husband William (Bill) Goodwin, their sons Steven and Loren, and her sister Susan.Mary and Fran Goodwin owned Stitchin' and Readin' for several years, a yarn and paperback book swap shop they started in Columbus.A graveside service will be held on April 30 at 4 p.m., in Polk Memorial Gardens, followed by a reception in First Baptist activities building across from the church.Donations in Mary's memory may be made to First Baptist Church of Tryon, P.O.
