Obituary

Mary Frances Story Duncan of Lynn, North Carolina, known as Mary Frances to those who knew and loved her, passed away Tuesday, December 9, 2025.

She was born in and was a lifelong resident of Lynn, North Carolina. She was the daughter of the late Carl “CO” Story and Edna Hood Cannon.

She was also proceeded in death by her husband of 62 years, Wayne Duncan, a brother Jack Story, and a sister Dare Fowler.

She worked for Milliken at the Hatch Plant for 26 years. Upon leaving there, she worked 17 years for Polk County Transportation where she grew to love those she transported.

She enjoyed volunteering her time to Hospice of the Foothills, the Historical Society of Polk County, St. Luke’s Hospital, and the foundation for St. Luke’s Hospital. She was a lifelong member of Lynn First Baptist Church. When not volunteering, she had a love for and enjoyed traveling.

She loved sharing stories of growing up in Lynn, North Carolina and seeing it evolve into the community it is today.

The family will receive friends Friday, December 12, 2025, from 2:00 p.m. to 2:45 p.m. in the McFarland Funeral Chapel.

A celebration of her life will follow at 3:00 p.m. at the funeral chapel with Reverend Jimmy Owens officiating.

Burial will follow in Polk Memorial Gardens in Columbus.

In lieu of flowers, please make contributions to Hospice of the Foothills, Advent/St. Luke's Hospital, or Lynn First Baptist Church.
