Marjorie Wertheim Haslwanter, 98, of Tryon, NC died Monday, October 2, 2006 in White Oak Manor, Tryon, NC.Born in Brooklyn, NY, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Blanche M. Mendenhall Wertheim. She was the wife of the late Leo Haslwanter who died in 1973. She became interested in genealogy in the 1960's and was able to trace her roots back to 1682 when the first Mendenhalls came to this country from England and settled in West Chester, PA. They were Quakers, some of whom fought in the Revolutionary War, for which they were disowned. The Mendenhalls were also involved in the Underground Railroad. She was an artist and took many classes at the Tryon Fine Arts Center. She also loved to read and loved her Boston Terriers. Surviving are two daughters, Jeanne Haslwanter of Honolulu, HI and Carol Gensler of East Stroudsburg, PA and Sarasota, Florida. Also surviving are 3 grandchildren. Sharon Phillips, Linda Addario and Clark Gensler Jr. and 4 great grandchildren, Brianna, Caitlin, Kevin and Jenna. No services are planned.
