Obituary

Green Creek, NC- Marilyn Purcell of 610 Phillips Road, Green Creek, NC passed on June 11, 2009 at her home. She was born in Detroit, MI on June 10, 1937. Her survivors include her husband, Dr. James Purcell, sister, Pamela Huff of Texas, brother Ralph Sawyer, son, Thomas Purcell of Salina, KS, two grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Marilyn graduated from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor with a BS in Dental Hygiene. Her husband, Jim graduated from Dental School and they were married August 8, 1959. Her favorite hobbies were gardening and horse back riding. Her passion was fox hunting. She hunted for over twenty years with the Metamora Hunt in Michigan and for a short while with the Tryon Hounds. She also showed hunter, rode point-to-point races and showed dressage to Third Level. She volunteered with Steps to Hope, Thermal Belt Outreach, Pacolet Area Conservancy, FENCE, and Foothills Riding Club. In accordance with her wishes, there will be no funeral nor memorial service. In lieu of flowers, please make donations Hospice of the Carolina Foothills or Steps to Hope. "Dearest Jim, we won't say goodbye until the last minute. I'll hold out my hand and my heart will be in it. My love always, Marilyn."
