Columbus, North Carolina -- Marianne Katharina Kaas Panoscha, age 99, died peacefully on Monday, May 25, 2026 at her home at Tryon Estates.

A native of Duisburg, Germany, she apprenticed and certified as a bookkeeper, and continued this profession throughout her time in Germany. She was also active in a local rowing club, where she met her future husband. Marianne emigrated to Tryon in 1957 with her husband Guenter to begin establishing a new family home. She was devoted to her family, enjoyed gardening, needle crafts, hiking the local mountains, and loved to travel both nationally and internationally. She was active in the community with the Congregational Church, scouting, Tryon Public Schools and a local hiking group.

Surviving are her daughter Rita Panoscha, her son Juergen Panoscha, her daughter in law Mairi Kidd, and grandchildren Ian and Nora Panoscha, all of Portland, Oregon. She was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Guenter Albert Max Panoscha (d. 2019).

In keeping with her wishes, there will be no memorial service, but a private family remembrance will be held at a later date.
