Hendersonville, NC- Maria Gsellmann, 90 of Hendersonville NC, formerly of Kings Mountain, NC, Passed away on January 13, 2016 at the Laurels of Hendersonville. She was born in Neureichenau, Germany on August 24, 1925. She was preceded in death by her husband, Adam Gsellmann, her brother Franz Berger Jr., her father Franz Berger Sr., her mother Anna (Widegger) Berger, and sister Anna (Anni) Berger. She came by herself to the United States after WWII via a sponsorship from Norma Rowand who she and her sister befriended in Germany while Norma's husband was stationed there at the U. S. Military base. She taught herself English and worked hard in various occupations before retiring from the Cleveland County school system after working there for 15 years. She lived in Kings Mountain, NC for 55 years before moving to Hendersonville. She was a member of St. Matthews Lutheran church in Kings Mountain. She was a great cook of German and American food. She had a love and great talent for gardening, flowers, knitting and sewing. Maria and her husband Adam won an award from the city for their beautiful yard. She was a very hard worker, kind hearted, very friendly and loved animals, flowers, music and dancing. She was a good mother, wife, sister and friend who will be greatly missed. Survivors are: one daughter, Linda D. Gsellmann, SC; two sisters from Germany, Rose Stecher and Hildegard (Hilde) Stadler; nieces and nephews also from Germany.A private funeral service will be held at McFarland Funeral Chapel, Tryon, NC.Interment will be held at a later date.Memorials may be made to the Salvation Army, 305-311 N. Lafayette Street, Shelby, NC 28150.
