Tryon, NC - Margaret Louise Pace Pittman, 87, of Miller Drive died at her home Saturday, October 31, 2009. Born in Polk Co., NC, she was the daughter of the late Lotan and Maylona Waters Pace. A 1939 honor graduate of Tryon High School, she started her business career working alongside her dad at Jackson and Jackson Cloth of Gold. Later she worked at Adams-Millis and Barnette Southern before working as a CNA. Margaret taught Sunday School and sang in the Congregational Church of Christ choir for over fifty years. She was active in numerous community programs including PTA, Girl Scouts of America, and Big Brothers Big Sisters. In 1998, she received an award from the North Carolina Women's Republican Party for her achievements and dedication. She is survived by her husband of 68 years, Clyde W. Pittman; two daughters, Elaine Ashley and husband, Larry of Shelby, NC and Judy Cappelmann and husband, J.C. of Oriental, NC; one sister, Ruth Foy of Tryon, NC; three brothers, Alvin "Top" Pace of Valdosta, GA, Carl Pace of Winston-Salem, NC and Frank Pace of Greer, SC; Also surviving are four grandchildren, Lance Ashley and Lana White and husband, John all of Shelby, NC; Samantha Morrison and husband, Judson of Chicago, IL and Thomas Kell and wife, Ansley of Greenville, SC; three great grandchildren, Anna, Callie and Ashley. In addition to her parents, Margaret was preceded in death by three brothers, Jim, Junior and Cecil Pace. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, November 4, 2009 in the Congregational Church of Christ, Tryon, NC with Dr. Robert Barrows officiating. Burial will be in Polk Memorial Gardens, Columbus, NC. The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. in the McFarland Funeral Chapel, Tryon, NC.
