- Madelyn Obelia Lanning, 89, of Columbus, NC, passed away on Tuesday, March 7, 2017 at her residence.Born in Spartanburg County, she was the daughter of the late Jonathan and Annie Searcy. She was the widow of Robert Lanning, who passed away in 2012. Madelyn spent many years caring for others as a certified nursing assistant. She was of the Baptist Faith and loved spending time with her grand and great-grandchildren.In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by two sons, Ronnie Lanning, and Lonnie Earl Lanning.Surviving are three sons, Richard Lanning (Jeneatte) of Columbus, NC, Larry Lanning of Little Chicago, SC, and Roger Lanning (Ashley) of Green Creek, NC. Also surviving are 15 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.A graveside service will be held on Thursday, March 9, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. at Polk Memorial Gardens in Columbus, NC with Rev. Brian Wilson and Rev. Dewayne Pruitt officiating.
