MILL SPRING, NC - Lula Cowart Blackwell, 101, of Mill Spring, NC passed away Monday evening, December 5, 2011 in White Oak Manor, Tryon, NC.Born in Spartanburg County, SC, she was the daughter of the late Walter and Ella Mills Cowart and wife of the late Burton Blackwell who died in 1965. She was a member of Mill Spring First Baptist Church and was a previous adult ladies Sunday school teacher.Surviving are three sons, Broadus Blackwell of Lake, MI, Donald Blackwell of Mill Spring, NC and Michael Blackwell of Columbus, NC; three daughters, Evelyn Farmer of Campobello, SC, Louise Mittlestadt of Landrum, SC and Reba Williams of Mill Spring, NC. Also surviving are 26 grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren and great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by three children, Cleo, Clifford and Betty.Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, December 9, 2011 in Mill Spring First Baptist Church, Mill Spring, NC with Rev. Henry Farmer and Rev. David Bame officiating.Burial will be in the church cemetery.The family will receive friends prior to the service Friday from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. in the church.Memorials may be made to Hospice of the Carolina Foothills, 130 Forest Glen Drive, Columbus, NC 28722.The family would like to thank the staff of White Oak Manor of Tryon for the loving care they gave to Mrs. Blackwell.
