Columbus, NC - Lucille Ann Prentki, 90, of 619 Laurel Lake Drive, Columbus, NC died Tuesday, February 23, 2010 in the Smith Phayer Hospice House in Landrum, SC. Born in Detroit, MI, she was the daughter of the late Walter and Sophie Daniol Krzys. She was the second of four children; Lottie, Wanda, and Ted, all died before her death. She finished school in Detroit, MI and married her high school sweetheart on July 4, 1940. In 2009 she celebrated their 69th anniversary. She was able to join her husband while he was in service, living in Wake Forest, Durham, Atlanta, and Dallas. Her first child, Jonnie Cheryl was born in Durham. After the war she had four children, Richard, Kerry, Rene and James. When the children were all in school she worked for various companies as a secretary and inventory control. At one time she maintained a subscription mailing list for a magazine at home on a computer. She also worked as a volunteer for Meals On Wheels, and Park Ridge Hospital. Surviving are her husband, John T. Prentki, two daughters, Jonnie Herr of Georgia and Rene Katsinas of Alabama; three sons, Richard Prentki of Alaska, Kerry Prentki of Mexico, and James Prentki of Long Island, NY. Also nine grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Funeral mass will be held 10:00 am Monday, March 1, 2010 in St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Tryon, NC with Father Patrick Winslow officiating. Burial will be at 12:00pm Tuesday, March 2, 2010 in the NC State Veterans Cemetery in Black Mountain, NC. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice of the Carolina Foothills, 130 Forest Glen Drive, Columbus, NC or to St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, 180 Laurel Avenue, Tryon, NC 28782.
