Obituary

ZIRCONIA -- Lucille Blackwell Osteen left her earthly home January 23, 2025, after a long and brave battle with Parkinson's Disease at 88.5 years old.  She was known by many different names: daughter, sister, "Mama," beloved wife, "Lucy," "Ma" (for her grandchildren), but her favorite was "Great-Ma" to her great-granddaughter.

Lucy was the oldest of six children. She was the Salutatorian at Flat Rock High School in 1955 (Henderson County.)  Following high school, Lucy was the first in her family to graduate from college at Montreat with a degree in Elementary Education.  Lucy taught 4 th grade in Mecklenburg and Henderson County schools for a total of 11 years.

Lucy retired from teaching for her second venture for 45 years as a Mary Kay consultant. Many marveled at her soft-spoken voice and elegance.

Lucy loved reading, especially books about the Civil War and other historical novels. One could find her for many years on Thursday afternoons volunteering at the Green River Branch library in Henderson County.

Lucy's faith was always very important to her. She often sang solos in church as a way to share her joy in her Heavenly Father.

Lucy was preceded in death by her parents, James and Mildred (Camp) Blackwell, sister Brenda Shipley, brothers: James Blackwell and Thomas Blackwell, and brothers-in-law:  David Shipley and Mack Thompson.  She is survived by her husband, Mitchell Osteen of 56 years, her sisters: Phoebe Rollins (John) and Dorothy Thompson, sister-in-law, Sarah Blackwell; her daughters: Angela Stier and Maria White (David) and son, Montraville Osteen (Julie) as well as her grandchildren: Zachary White (Elizabeth) and Stella Osteen, and her precious, great-granddaughter, Finley White.

A funeral service will be held at West Hendersonville Baptist Church, 730 Willow Rd, Hendersonville, NC 28739, at 12:30 pm, Saturday, February 1, 2025, with the Reverend Tracy Fletcher officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the Church.

Lucy will have her final resting place at Mount Olivet Church.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her honor to West Hendersonville Baptist Church, Samaritan's Purse, or Wounded Warrior.
