Lola Thompson Ward, 103, of 866 Louisiana Avenue, Saluda, NC, went home to be with the Lord peacefully at her home surrounded by family on Saturday July 21, 2007.She was a lifelong resident of Polk County, NC. The daughter of the late George L. and Aletha Howard Thompson, Mrs. Ward was the owner and the heart of Thompson's Store in Saluda, NC. Her husband Roy E. Ward passed away in 1967 and she continued to run the store until her mid 90's. She was a member of Saluda First Baptist Church. Surviving is one son, Charles L. Ward and wife Judy of Saluda, NC. One brother, Thomas Thompson of Pineville, KY. Also surviving are three grandchildren, and 8 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by 2 sons, Jack T. Ward, who died in 1994 and an infant son, Roy Ward, Jr. She was also preceded in death by two brothers, G. L. Thompson, Paul H. Thompson, and one sister, Betty Jo Thompson MahoneyFuneral services will be held on Wednesday, July 25, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. in Saluda First Baptist Church in Saluda, NC.Burial will be in Friendship Baptist Church Cemetery, Saluda, NC.The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 7:30 pm Tuesday, July 24, 2007 in the McFarland Funeral Chapel in Tryon, NC.Memorials may be made to Friendship Baptist Church, Cemetery Fund, Friendship Rd., Saluda, NC 28773Mrs. Ward will be placed in the church at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday.The family is at the home, 866 Louisiana Ave., Saluda, NC.
