SALUDA, N.C. - Lloyd Thomas Thompson, 89, of Saluda, N.C. passed away October 2nd, 2014.Born in Saluda, North Carolina, he was the son of the late Alma Johnson Thompson and Hugh McKinley Thompson. Mr. Thompson graduated from Saluda High School and entered the Army. He was stationed in Fort Custer, MI, Fort Hearne, Tx and Camp Pendleton, CA. He was on his way to Okinawa by ship when the atomic bomb fell. He spent several months in Japan serving his country. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Saluda since 1945. He was a firm believer in Sunday school and served as Secretary of the Sunday school class in past years. He worked for Pace Brothers Construction Co. for 25 years before pursuing self - employment in his business Thompson Asphalt Paving Co. In his retirement years, he enjoyed golf, North Carolina Tarheel sports, Atlanta Braves games and his grandchildren.He is preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Betty Pace Thompson. He is survived by two daughters, Cindy Thompson Bishop and Jenny Thompson, both of Charlotte, N.C., and two grandchildren, Zachary Lloyd Bishop of Boone, N.C. and Grace LeAnna Christenbery of Charlotte, N.C. He is also survived by loving relatives and dear friends. A service to honor Mr. Thompson will be held at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, October 5th, in the First Baptist Church of Saluda with the Rev. Tony Reese and the Rev. Rob Parsons officiating.The family will receive friends in the church social hall one hour prior to the service. Burial will be in Saluda City Cemetery, Saluda, NC with Military rite by the Polk County Memorial Burial Squad.Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church of Saluda Building Fund, P.O.
