Lila Hancock Corpening, 90, of Tryon, North Carolina peacefully passed away on Saturday, August 15, 2026.

Lila was born on March 6, 1936 to James and Lillie Stutts Hancock. She was preceded in death by her husband, Gay S. Corpening and was a devoted wife for 59 years. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by six brothers and one sister.

Surviving are three sons, Michael Corpening, Gaden Corpening (Aline), and Bryan Corpening (Jennifer); two grandchildren, Matthew (Erica) Corpening and Monique Corpening and two great grandchildren, Ariella and Zaiah Corpening. Also surviving is a dear niece, Pat Hancock Brown.

Lila was a graduate of Brevard College. Her love of sports began as an accomplished and high scoring basketball player for Tryon High School. She volunteered with Stephen Ministry through the Tryon Presbyterian Church. Lila enjoyed traveling and working as a travel agent.

Memorial Services will be announced at a later date.

In lieu of flowers or as a memorial, donations may be made to Tryon Presbyterian Church Building Fund, Hospice of the Carolina Foothills, or to Foothills Humane Society.
