LANDRUM – Leonard Culbreth, 91, of Landrum, South Carolina, passed away, February 5, 2026, at home surrounded by family.
Born in Landrum, South Carolina, he was the son of the late Cursey and Bessie Gibbs Culbreth. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife of 67 years, Ola Mae Pritchard Culbreth. He was the last remaining member of his immediate family, having been preceded in death by six brothers, Hubert, Edward, Allen, Bobby, Fred and Harold; two sisters, Elizabeth Denton and Louise Page.
Leonard dedicated his entire career to working with horses, having left home at 15 years old in search of work. After moving to and spending 30 years living and working with horses in Lexington, Kentucky, he retired back to Landrum at the age of 72. He continued working part-time with horses at the Cotton Patch in Hunting Country, Tryon, North Carolina until having to stop to care for his wife who was diagnosed with dementia at age 84.
He is survived by one daughter, Patsy Walker and husband Danny of Tryon, North Carolina; two grandsons, Phillip Horton (Tonya) and Matthew Walker; two great-grandsons, Cody and Austin Horton; one great-great-grandson, Hunter Horton.
No services are planned at this time.
A private burial was held.
