SALUDA – Junie Eugene Hines, III 74, of Saluda, passed away, Saturday morning, May 9, 2026, at his home following a long illness.

Born in Jacksonville, Florida, he was the son of the late Junie Eugene Hines, Jr. and Pansy Bray Hines Starling. Junie moved to Saluda in 1975, coming from Fort Lauderdale, Florida. He had visited Saluda one time and realized that is where he wanted to call home. Junie was a master carpenter having made custom cabinets, remodeling homes and roofing. Junie loved hunting, fishing and spending time with his dogs.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Oventon Eugene Hines.

Surviving is one daughter, Melissa Ann Rafael (Juan) of Florida; two grandchildren, Dawn Marie Rafael, and Jonathan Gregory Rafael. Sisters and brothers Peggy Cole of Florida, Cathy Johnson of South Carolina, Lilly Johnson, of North Carolina, June Rigsby of Florida, Janet Littlejohn of South Carolina, John Hines of Florida.

The family will receive friends Thursday, May 14, 2026 from 1:00 p.m. to 1:45 p.m. at the McFarland Funeral Chapel. The funeral service will follow at 2:00 p.m., Thursday at the chapel with Reverend Curtis Pace officiating.

Burial will follow in Saluda City Cemetery.
