Martha June Williams passed away peacefully at the age of 94 on July 8, 2023 in Hendersonville, North Carolina.
Martha June was lovingly known as "June", "Mama", "Memaw", "Aunt June" and "Grandma". She was born in Emhouse, Texas to Raymond and Bertha McFee on April 11, 1929. She was the oldest daughter of 10 children and had great responsibilities having to help with the babies, help clean house, and work in the fields. She described her life as hard but happy. At eleven years old she gave her life to the Lord Jesus Christ. Her Grandmother and Grandpa influenced her and encouraged her to come to church. Her grandmother played the organ at the Baptist Church where she attended. She would carry all of her siblings to church with her each week, which was a mile walk, even though her parents didn't often go. After finishing high school in 1948, she moved to Tryon, NC to go to business college and live with her Aunt Ola. It was there that she met Hubert Paul Williams, Jr and they were married on June 23rd,1951 in Tryon, NC.
June loved to sew quilts for her children and grandchildren. She also loved to grow vegetables, cook, can food and always had a guidepost or crossword puzzle nearby.
She is remembered for loving her family well. She always worked hard and loved to serve. She was always caring for children or the elderly. When her grandchildren were born she took great pride and joy in them. She was ready and willing to have them come and stay with her or she would come and stay with them. She was busy but involved her grandchildren in what she was doing so they could learn and be near. She took great joy in seeing her many cousins, nieces, nephews and then great grandchildren. She said over and over that the Lord is so good. Even though there are many struggles in life, the Lord's love and care helped her. "Hold tightly to Jesus which brings love, peace and happiness."
June is survived by her two loving sons, Dexter Paul Williams of Anderson, SC and Gary Lee Williams, daughter in love, Sandra Williams of Flat Rock, NC. Her "lovely" seven grandchildren, their spouses and "treasured" nineteen great grandchildren. Her family remembers how she would always tell them how "proud" she was that they visited. She also said often, "What a blessing they are. Praising the Lord in all I do- HE IS SO GOOD"!
She was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Hubert Paul Williams, Jr,; great grandson, Samuel Luke Cutliff and her daughter in love, Mary Anne Williams. Also, her 9 siblings Thomas Henry, Clara Ann, Jeff, Marshall, Bill, Gail, Inez, Betty Jo and Buddy.
