Judith “Judy” Ashmore Edney, 82, of Columbus, passed away, Tuesday afternoon, December 16, 2025, at White Oak Manor of Tryon.
Born in Spartanburg County, she was the daughter of the late Freeman Ashmore and Christine Griffin Ashmore. Judy was a graduate of Landrum High School and went on to marry William “Bill” Edney. She was best known for her love of children, having baby sat many children throughout her life. She also was known for her baking skills and baked for multiple local restaurants. Judy was involved in her children’s activities such as 4-H, Brownies etc.… She and her husband Bill were members of the Carolina Nomads Car Club and Classic Chevy Club. She was a faithful member of Columbus Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William “Bill” Edney who passed away in 2011; one brother, Jimmy Ashmore: two sisters, Mary Louise Lawson and Joyce Wessinger.
Surviving are two sons, Johnny Edney (Deborah) of Columbus and Joey Edney (Kizma) of Asheville; two daughters, Debbie Gosnell (Scottie) of Roebuck and Janet Owens (Chris) of Columbus; one brother, Billy Ashmore of Indiana; nine grandchildren, Zack Edney, Alyssa Joslin, Josh Gosnell, Madison Stamper, Kyle Owens, Cole Owens, Victoria Snyder, Katelyn Montgomery and Jayden Shelton; eleven great-grandchildren, Korbin Edney, Maze Edney, John Michael Joslin, Ella Mae Joslin, Chloee Montgomery, Houston Montgomery, Kaisley Armstrong, Cayce Snyder, Hayden Snyder, Emma Snyder and Abigal Stamper; five godchildren, Rachael Hall, Benjamin Hall, Noah Hall, Eli Hall and Abigail Hall Durham; three sisters in law, Glenda Ashmore, Peggy Lockhart and Dixie Edney; brother in law, Mike Edney (Rowena) .
The family will receive friends Saturday, December 20, 2025, from 1:00 p.m. to 1:45 p.m. at Columbus Baptist Church.
A celebration of Judy’s life will follow at 2:00 p.m. at the church with Reverend Bobby Capps officiating.
Burial will be private.
