Judith Moy Janes died on Sunday, March 20, 2022 in Tryon, NC surrounded by family and beloved dog Bella.Judy was born in Newport, RI on November 12, 1936. Her parents were Edward and Mary (Roden) Moy.  She graduated from Rogers High School and attended Katharine Gibbs before marrying Bill Janes in 1957. They raised their six kids in her hometown of Newport, RI. Working for John Gidley House, Judy became an accomplished antiques broker, later opening her own shop in Tryon, NC. She became an editor for Mother Earth News in Hendersonville, NC and was a founding partner of BackHome Magazine. As food editor, Judy's stovetop became a test kitchen where she shared her recipes and voluminous cooking knowledge with thousands of regular readers.Judy is survived by 5 children: Matthew (Kellie), Elizabeth (Roger Yates), Katharine (Paul Petrarca), Peter (Stacy Pierce), and Judith (Tom Shaw); 7 grandchildren: Andrew and Alton Janes, Samantha and Peter Woods; Zoë Anderson, Lily Kelley, and Will Yates; and 4 great-grandchildren. Judith's husband Capt. William E. Janes USN (retired) and daughter Nancy preceded her in death.Interment will be in Newport, RI.
