TRYON, NC -- Jospeh David Wall, 86, of 135 Wall Rd., Tryon, NC died, Wednesday, November 29, 2006 in White Oak Manor in Tryon, NC.He was the son of the late Walter Jackson and Martha Benson Wall. He was a veteran of the US Navy having proudly served aboard the USS San Juan during WWII, which received 13 battle stars and was the first ship to enter Tokyo Bay prior to the signing of the peace treaty. He also served aboard the USS Thomas E. Frazier during the Korean War. Mr. Wall worked with Adam Mills in Tryon, NC and was retired from Homelite in Greer, SC. He was a member of Tryon Presbyterian Church in Tryon, NC.Surviving is his wife, Eda Cawthray Wall of the home. Son, George Wall and wife Patricia of Greer, SC. Grandson Tim Wall, wife Connie and great grandson Alex of Greenville, SC. One sister, Pauline Greene and husband Tom of High Point, NC and 4 nieces at various locations. One foster daughter, Jane Byers, her husband Bill and grandsons Billy and David of Lewisville, TX.A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, December 1, 2006 in the McFarland Funeral Chapel with Dr. David Hosick officiating.Military rites will be held by Polk County Memorial Burial Squad.The family will receive friends following the memorial service in the McFarland Funeral Chapel.Memorials may be made to Hospice of the Carolina Foothills, 130 Forest Glen Dr., Columbus, NC 28722 or the Cancer Society.
