Obituary

Columbus, NC -- J. Frank Morgan, 86 of Tryon Estates, 619 Laurel Lake Drive, Columbus, N.C., died on Thursday, March 20th, 2008.He grew up in Oak Park, IL, and was a graduate of the University of Illinois with a degree in Electrical Engineering. After college he worked for General Electric, and during World War II, he served as a naval officer with the Naval Ordnance Laboratory in Washington, DC. He then worked as a radio engineer with Bell Labs in New York City. As an electronic engineer his work also included travel to foreign countries, including Africa and the Middle East conducting airborne geophysical surveys for oil and minerals. He finally settled on Long Island, NY where he was married and had 2 children.He worked there as an electronic engineer and supervisor for Sperry Corp. for 33 years. He retired in 1983 and moved to Hendersonville, NC. He also lived in Tryon for several years, and ultimately resided at Tryon Estates in Columbus.He had been a member of the Congregational Church of Tryon, Sigma ChiFraternity, IEEE, Rotary of Tryon, and Hospice of the Carolina Foothills.Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, John & Olga Morgan of Charlottesville, VA, a daughter, Nan Morgan, of Round Top, NY, and two sisters, Dee Morgan of Arizona, and Joan Parajon of Managua, Nicaragua.Services are private.
