Columbus, NC-- Joseph "Joe" M. Dixon, 80, of Columbus, passed away February 2, 2022 at Tryon Estates WillowBrooke Nursing Center. He leaves behind warm, loving memories he brought to his family and friends.Born July 11, 1941 in Canton, NC, Joe was the son of the late Lester and Inez Devlin Dixon. He is preceded in death by his sisters, Shirley and Barbara, and his brother, David. He was married June 5, 1965 to Joyce Taylor in Canton. Joe and Joyce reared their family and lived in Hendersonville, NC until they moved to Tryon Estates in 2019. He was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Hendersonville.He proudly served his country where he was technically trained in the United States Air Force from 1960 to 1964.Joe worked at DuPont in Brevard, NC for 35 years where he held several positions but spent many of his years as Scheduling Manager for the Coating Department. Following his retirement, he enjoyed his time serving others and community-involvement with organizations such as Habitat for Humanity, the Henderson County Board of Elections, and the Building Maintenance Committee at The Oaks residential community.Survivors include his beloved wife, Joyce, of 56 years; daughter Michelle Dixon Harkey (Charles) of Peachtree City, GA; son John Dixon (Kirstie) of Greensboro, NC; his three grandsons whom he adored Andrew Dixon, Jared Harkey, and Brandon Dixon; and one great-granddaughter Lydia Dixon.A celebration of his life will be held on Thursday, February 17 at 2:00 PM at the Tryon Estates Chapel in Columbus, NC, with Chaplain Kevin Lynch officiating. Following the service, the family will receive friends with a reception.The family would like to thank the staff of WillowBrooke Court for their wonderful care and devotion.In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The Parkinson's Foundation or Habitat for Humanity.
