COLUMBUS, NC - Joseph L. "Roy" Case, Sr.,74, of Columbus, NC, died Tuesday, July 15, 2008 in White Oak Manor, Rutherfordton, NC. Born in Polk County, NC, he was the son of the late Virgil and Helen Parton Case. He was first married to Caroline Ashley Case who died in 1996. A Veteran of the Korean conflict, he served in the U. S. Air Force. Mr. Case retired from General Electric Lighting Systems in Hendersonville, NC after 33 years of service. He was past chairman of the Polk County Democrat Party and was the former Mayor of Columbus, NC having served from 1997 to 2002. Mr. Case was a member of the Columbus Presbyterian Church. Surviving are: his wife, Rebecca Burns Case of Columbus, NC; a son, Joseph L. "Lee" Case, Jr. (Dawn); three daughters, Kyle Stepp (Billy), Caylin Case and Erica Lamb all of Columbus, NC; four sisters, Faith Ross, Doris Stott, Joyce Ross and Katherine Greene all of Columbus, NC. Also surviving is one granddaughter, Jessica Leigh Stepp. He was preceded in death by 2 brothers and 2 sisters. Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Thursday, July 17, 2008 in the Columbus Presbyterian Church, Columbus, NC with Rev. Ralph Kuether officiating. Burial will be in the Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends immediately following the service in the Fred C. Ashley Assembly Hall of the Columbus Presbyterian Church.
