Obituary

Joseph Albert (Joe) Alemany, husband of Mary Salisbury Alemany of Tryon Estates, Columbus, died Wednesday, July 30, 2008.Born in New Haven, Connecticut on February 26, 1920, he was the son of the late Jose and Mary Quintana Alemany. He attended the University of Illinois prior to entering the military in World War II. Joe served as an officer in the 4th Armored Division of General Patton's Third Army, landing at Omaha Beach on D-Day plus 11. He was awarded the Bronze Star with cluster for his service.Joe started a real estate business, Keystone Corporation, in Wilton, CT in 1955, and ran the company until his retirement in 1998. In Wilton, he served on several town commissions, and as an active member and two-term president of the Kiwanis Club. In 1998, Joe and Mary relocated to the Tryon Estates retirement community. He was instrumental in forming and running TECUG (Tryon Estates Computer Users Group) as well as helping to establish the computer-learning center.Joe was a kind and loving husband, father, grandfather and friend who will be missed by all who knew him. He is survived by Mary, his wife of 32 years; son, Enoch Alemany of Reading, PA; daughters, Joyce Michaele Picard (Ron) of Vero Beach, FL and Abigail Katzmarek (Jim) of Savage, MN; grandchildren, Tara and Rachel Alemany, Joanna Picard, John, Mia and Katie Katzmarek and great-grandchildren, Eliza and Timothy Alemany. He was predeceased by stepson, Andrew Green.Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m., Monday, August 4th in the auditorium of Tryon Estates, Columbus.Private interment will be held at Western Carolina State Veteran's Cemetery in Black Mountain, NC.Memorials may be made to the St. Luke's Hospital Foundation, 101 Hospital Drive, Columbus, NC 28722.
