HENDERSONVILLE, NC -- Jon Stephan Hickman, 50, of Courtwood Lane, Hendersonville, NC died Tuesday, July 28, 2009 in Pardee Hospital in Hendersonville, NC.Born in Pittsburgh, PA, he was the son of Lois A. Hickman Staub of Ormond Beach, FL and the late Jessie C. Hickman, Jr. He was a veteran of the US Marines having served in Grenada and was a member of Hubert M. Smith American Legion Post #77 and Hedrick Rhodes VFW Post # 5206. Jon was a graduate of Gupton-Jones College of Mortuary Science in Atlanta, GA. Jon had worked with McFarland Funeral Chapel, Thos. Shepherd & Son, Lanford-Pollard in Spartanburg and other Funeral Homes in N.C. and S.C.Surviving in addition to his mother is his wife, Kathy Porter Hickman. Two daughters, Courtney A. and Andrea Nichole Hickman of Mauldin, SC; two sons, Conner and Jon Hickman of Rutherford County, NC. One brother, Michael E. Hickman of Madison Heights, MI.; an aunt, Rita Gazarik of New York, NY; an uncle Edward Hickman (Myrtle) of Oviedo, FL; two step-sons, Christopher Griffin and Michael Frantz; two step daughters, Erin Frantz and Audria Alvey. He was preceded in death by his step-father, Jim Staub.Memorial services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, August 2, 2009 in the McFarland Funeral Chapel, Tryon, NC.Burial will be at 12:00 p.m. Monday, August 3, 2009 in the Western Carolina Veterans Cemetery in Black Mountain, NC with military rites by Buncombe County Veterans Council Memorial Team.Memorials may be made to the American Legion, Ken Ardron Sickness and Distress Fund, 216 4th Ave. W., Hendersonville, NC 28739 and Hendrick Rhodes VFW Post 5206, 900 N.
