Tryon, NC - J. Earl Foy, 84, husband of Ruth Pace Foy, of Horseshoe Curve Rd., Tryon, NC died Wednesday, September 22, 2010 at St. Luke's Hospital in Columbus, NC. Born in Spartanburg, SC, he was the son of the late John Harley and Nellie Dalton Foy. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII stationed in Germany. He retired from McLean Trucking, Spartanburg, SC and he also was a Landscaper. He was a former Polk County Commissioner serving from 1984 to 1986. Earl was a member of Woodmen of the World, delivered Meals on Wheels, enjoyed helping his daughters with Girl Scouts and the Tryon High School Band. He volunteered with the Blue Ridge Barbeque Festival, decorating his church as needed at Christmas, and he was always willing to serve others as needed. Earl was active in the Republican Party. He was a member of the Congregational Church of Christ, Tryon, NC where he had served as a deacon. Surviving are his wife of 61 years, Ruth Pace Foy; two daughters, Dr. Jane F. Arnold (Charlie) of Tampa, FL and Janet F. Sauve (Floyd) of Tryon, NC. Also surviving are three grandchildren, John J. Sauve, Caroline R. Sauve, and Alison M. Arnold, Three brothers, Jesse Foy (Shirley), Fred Foy (Julie) and Clarence McCraw (Joyce) all of Mill Spring, NC. He was preceded in death by 3 sisters, Gladys Halford, Ruth Cook and Vera Dobbins and 2 brothers, Frank and Harold Foy. Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Sunday, September 26, 2010, in the Congregational Church of Christ, Tryon, NC with Dr. Robert Barrows officiating. Burial will be in Polk Memorial Gardens, Columbus, NC. Family to receive friends from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. Saturday night, Sept. 25, 2010 in the McFarland Funeral Chapel, Tryon, NC.
