Joe Junior Runyon, 86, of Columbus, passed away Friday evening, November 4, 2022 at his home.Born in Holden, West Virginia, he was the son of the late Floyd and Nancy Shephard Runyon. Mr. Runyon moved to Polk County in 1989 coming from Varney, West Virginia. For many years, he was an autobody repairman working for a dealership then opening his own body shop. After retirement, he enjoyed working with flowers in his garden, antique cars, birdwatching and feeding squirrels. Mr. Runyon was of the Baptist faith.In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Betty Runyon; four children, Ronnie Joe Runyon, Johnny "Bear" Runyon, Anthony Todd Hatfield and infant son, Charlie Runyon; one grandchild, Michael Dillon and one great-grandchild, Jasmine Cambron.Surviving is his loving wife of 47 years, Rachel Hatfield Runyon; six children, Melvin Coburn (Kay) of Rutledge, Tennessee, Dorothy Bell (Dana) of Delbarton, West Virginia, Roberta Runyon and Kimberly Dillon both of Hendersonville, North Carolina; Nancy Case (Calvin) of East Flat Rock, North Carolina, Mary Jo Twitty (Darius) of Summerfield, North Carolina and Amy Runyon (Curtis Simpson) of Columbus, North Carolina. Also surviving are 16 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and 7 great-great-grandchildren.A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, November 9, 2022 in the McFarland Funeral Chapel with Dr. Chris Osborn officiating.
