TRYON, NC - Lt. Col. (Retired) Joan Comolli of Tryon, NC died Sunday, April 27, 2008 in Regional Hospice Home in Spartanburg, SC. Born in Chicago, Ill, she was the daughter of the late Clare Jacobs and Lois Hoyt Perry. Mrs. Comolli was a 1943 graduate of Lyons County High School in Western Spring, Ill and graduated in 1947 from Northern Illinois University in Dekalb, Ill. She earned her Masters Degree in Physical Therapy from University of Southern California. Mrs. Comolli served 21 years in the U.S. Army Specialist Corp., 3 years in the 279th General Hospital in Osaka, Japan as well as various U.S. Army Hospitals, Fort Sam Houston, San Antonio, Letterman, San Francisco, Walter Reed, Washington, D.C., Hot Springs, Ark., Fort Benning, Columbus, GA. She served 1 year as head of physical therapy clinics in Germany and retired as Lieutenant Colonial and established a private practice in Stuart, FL. She married Edward Comolli in February 1983, who she met at the 279th General Hospital. They moved to Tryon, NC in August 1991. She and her husband spent summers on Lake Champlain in Vermont as well as motor home traveling throughout the U.S. and Canada. Her whole life was devoted to helping others including volunteering at Charles Lea Center, Crisis Line and Meals on Wheels. Surviving in addition to her husband are one daughter, Elizabeth Comolli and husband, Edward LeClair and one son, Thomas Comolli and wife, Heather Comolli. Also surviving are three cousins, Liza Hoyt and husband, Marlin, Mitiam Gregg and husband, Terry of Mapleton, Maine and Arthur Hoyt of Clanton, AL. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, May 10, 2008 in the Holy Cross Episcopal Church, Tryon, NC with Rev. Dr. Michael Doty officiating with full military honors.
