Tryon, NC - Jessie Turney Griffin Rogers, 97 of, Tryon, NC died Friday, December 16, 2011 in Benson Hall of White Oak Manor, Tryon, NC. Born in York Co., SC, she was the daughter of the late Carl M. and Edith Faye Wallace Turney. She was first married to James Gray Griffin who died in 1964. She was later married to Charles Edward Rogers who died in 1998. She was a past employee of the Betty Sturgis Shoppe in Tryon for many years. Mrs. Rogers was a member of the First Baptist Church in Tryon where she taught GA's for a number of years. Surviving nieces and nephews include; James W. McGee and his wife Brenda of Fort Mill, SC, Myrna Hendrix and her husband Kay of Lawrenceville, GA, Gloria T. Sims and her husband Marion of Mt. Holly, NC, and, William N. Turney of Rock Hill, SC; stepchildren are Charles Edward Rogers, Jr. Peggy Shannon Sultan, Janet Gaynor Russell, Sylvia Ann Yarbrough, and Betty Jane Bennett. Funeral services will be held 2:00 pm Tuesday, December 20, 2011 in the McFarland Funeral Chapel, Tryon, NC with Rev. Jeff Harris officiating. Family to receive friends from 1:00 pm to 1:45 pm prior to the service in the funeral home. Burial will be in Polk Memorial Gardens, Columbus, NC. Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church Tryon, 125 Pacolet Street, Tryon, NC 28782 or to the Foothills Humane Society, 989 Little Mountain Road, Columbus, NC 28722. The family would like to express their appreciation to Dr. Sandra McCormack and the wonderful staff at Benson Hall for their support, love, and dedication to making her residence a home.
