Obituary

JEFF SCOGGINSSpotsylvania, VA -- Jefferson Earl Scoggins, 50, of Spotsylvania County and a native of Tryon, NC, died suddenly Monday, May 29, 2006 at Mary Washington Hospital. He was a graduate of Tryon High School Class of 1974 where he played football and attended Mars Hill College where he also played football. He was a graduate of Limestone College in Gaffney, SC. He was in sales with Bluegrass Hardware Company and moved to Virginia to work with his brother Mike where they ran a convenience store together. He was a member of Tryon First Baptist Church. He was a wonderful husband, son, uncle, brother-in-law and surrogate dad and godfather. He was a friend to many and was well respected in the community. During his many years of working in the area he met many wonderful people. His generous heart and giving spirit touched so many of those he came in contact with. He was always there with a helping hand, friendly smile and shoulder to lean on. He was a loving caring generous man and will be greatly missed by many. Survivors include his wife, Denise Gracik Scoggins; his mother Doris Scoggins of Tryon, NC; two brothers, Mike Scoggins and his wife Norma of Hartwood, VA and Phil Scoggins and his wife Joyce of Landrum, SC; seven nephews, John, Corey, Michael, Barrett, Ryan, Brent, and Lucas, and his mother-in-law, Edna Gracik, of Fredericksburg. He was preceded in death by his father, Clarence G. Scoggins. A memorial service will be held at 7:00 pm on Friday, June 2 at Covenant Funeral Service, Fredericksburg, VA with the Rev. William E. Jeffcoat officiating. The family will receive friends following the service until 9:00pm. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Monday, June 5, 2006 in Tryon First Baptist Church with Dr. Darryl E. Maxwell and Jeff's brother, Phil Scoggins officiating. The family will receive friends following the service in Tryon First Baptist Church. Interment will be in Polk Memorial Gardens in Columbus, NC.Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association, Memorials Processing Center, Box 5216, Glen Allen, VA 23058 or to the American Cancer Society, C/O Trudy Clifton, 113 Tallpines Ave., Locust Grove, VA 22508 or to Tryon First Baptist Church Activity Building Fund, 125 Pacolet St., Tryon, NC 28782.
