Obituary

Jean Robinson, of Tryon, passed away May 1st. The cause was cancer. Jean was born in 1929 in New York City and grew up in Leonardo, New Jersey. After completing a bachelor's degree in biology from the University of Tennessee, she returned to New Jersey, where she taught at the elementary and high school levels until her retirement in 1984. She was a devoted teacher and strong believer in the value of education. Jean and her husband, Ken, moved to Tryon NC in 1987 where she became very active in the community including the Tryon Swim Club, the Tryon Garden Club (especially Pearson's Falls), the Tryon Film Society, and volunteering at St. Luke's Hospital. She was also an enthusiastic traveler, bridge player, water colorist, and a voluminous reader. Her infectious laughter and independent spirit will be greatly missed by her family both here in the U.S. and in Scotland. It was her wish that memorial gifts be made to Hospice of the Carolina Foothills, 130 Forest Glen Drive, Columbus NC, 28722 or www.hocf.net. A memorial service is planned for later in the summer.
