CAMPOBELLO, SC - Mary Jean Loveday, beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, passed away, December 14, 2006 at home in Campobello, SC at the age of 89. Born Mary Jean Stirling in Salinas, CA on May 19, 1918, Mrs. Loveday lived in the Monterey Bay area for most of her life, relocating to SC in 2004 to live with her daughter's family. Growing up on a cattle ranch as the only child of Lester and Jeannie Stirling, she was educated at the Robert Louis Stephenson School, Stanford University and Mills College. She grew up an avid polo player and always loved horses and dogs, which became her favorite subject when she developed a talent for drawing and painting. Mrs. Loveday was the much-loved widow of Capt. John C. Loveday of the US Navy. A devoted family women, she leaves behind three children; Leslie Heintzberger of Campobello, SC, Susan Metzler of Shawnee, OK and Richard Pearce of Carmel Valley, CA, a step daughter, Carrell Evans of Sidney, MT as well as several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Memorials may be made in her memory to the Hospice of the Carolina Foothills, 130 Forest Glen Drive, Columbus, NC 28722.
