J. Louise Markel, 94, of Columbus, NC, passed away on Saturday, November 3, 2018.Born in Somerset, PA, she was the daughter of the late Martin and Stella Markel. She was a graduate of Somerset High School in 1942, Cedar Crest College in 1946, and Drexel University in 1947. She lived in Oak Ridge, TN, from 1949 to 1997. After retirement, she moved to Tryon Estates in Columbus, NC. Louise served as a Special Services Army Librarian in Germany from 1947 to 1949. After her service, she worked as a librarian at Oak Ridge Associated Universities from 1950 to 1974 and for the Institute for Energy Analysis from 1974 to 1986. In addition to her parents, Louise was preceded in death by a brother, Martin Markel, Jr., and longtime friend, Marion Garber.
