James (Jim) Crawford Stevenson, 93, passed away peacefully on October 4, 2016 at Willowbrook Court, Tryon Estates. Born August 1, 1923 in Montgomery, Pennsylvania to William Walter Stevenson and Rebecca Ann Smith Stevenson, he was the youngest of three children, and was pre-deceased by his brother, Bill and sister, Betty Ann Nichols.Jim lived most of his early life in the Philadelphia area of Pennsylvania and cherished happy memories of school, horseback-riding, and that area's famous cuisine specialties. He married Helen Elizabeth Worthington and they had one son, James Jr., deceased in 2009.Serving in the Armed Forces, Jim was stateside and was involved in the Air Force's air-sea rescue instruction programs, mainly in the Southeast. Upon becoming a civilian, he became a tool designer, engineering supervisor as well as sales. His hobby of woodworking brought many hours of pleasure to him, and to those who benefitted from the handsome results of his talents. Upon retirement he and Helen (Bets) moved to Greenville, South Carolina where they enjoyed several years of residence at Swansgate, broken frequently by extensive travel all over the globe. In 1997 they moved to Tryon Estates, where in 2001 he lost his wife and was lovingly supported by friends and neighbors.His sole survivor, Robert Worthington Stevenson, and he reconnected several years ago, and have cherished a warm relationship although Rob and his wife, Mandy, live in Queen Creek, Arizona which affords few visits.Jim will be remembered by many for his quick wit, love of music, generosity in helping residents who needed a "wood-fix" of almost any description, and spontaneous outbursts of song in the hallways. He will be missed by many, but mostly by his long-time companion, Muriel Lambrecht, her family, and our kitty, Juliet.
