GREEN CREEK, NC -- James Buford Johnson, 85, of 800 Green Creek Drive, Green Creek, NC, passed away Sunday, January 28, 2007 at his residence after a period of declining health.Born in Polk County, NC he was the son of the late James Ed and Carrie Jackson Johnson and the husband for 59 years of Hazel Steadman Johnson.He was a life long resident of Green Creek and a life long member of the Church of the Brethren where he served in various capacities including being a lay minister.In addition to his wife, Mr. Johnson is survived by daughter, Teresa Taylor-Witt (Johnny) of Green Creek; daughter-in-law, Pam Hipp Johnson of Tryon, NC; grandsons, Darrell Taylor (Natalie) of Raleigh, NC and Wesley Johnson of Tryon, NC; great-grandchildren, Paige, Ian and Emma Taylor, and nephew, Preston White (Maggie) of Green Creek, NC. He was preceded in death by a son, James Elliott "Elmo" Johnson and a sister, Bernice Johnson White.Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 31, 2007 at Mill Creek Church of the Brethren, Coxe Rd., Green Creek, NC with Revs. Noel Naff and Keith Crain officiating.Burial will be in the church cemetery.The family will receive friends from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, January 30, 2007 in the McFarland Funeral Chapel in Tryon, NC.Mr. Johnson will be placed in the church at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday.In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Buford Johnson Memorial Fund, P. O. Box 280, Tryon, NC 28782.The family will be at the home, 800 Green Creek Dr., Green Creek, NC.
