Obituary

COLUMBUS, NC - James Taylor Hudson, 91, of Laurel Wood, Tryon Estates, Columbus, NC, died Wednesday, February 27, 2008 at his residence.Born in Wichita, KS, and formerly of Naples, FL, he was the son of the late James Taylor Hudson, Sr. and Hallie Helen Hubbell Hudson. Mr. Hudson served as Chief Warrant Officer on active duty in the US Navy during WW II from July 20, 1939 to December 4 1945. He was assigned from March 1942 until the end of the war to Chief of Naval Operations in Washington, DC in section deciphering and reading Japanese Naval Command Codes. Mr. Hudson received commendations from Chief of Naval Operations, CinC Fleet, and Commander from the South Pacific Fleet for "being instrumental in furnishing communication intelligence on movements of the Japanese Naval Forces, which contributed to the winning of the Battle of Midway by American Naval Forces" which turned the tide in the Battle of the Pacific. Mr. Hudson received his Master Mason, 32nd degree Mason, Shriner, Elk, American Legion, Sons of the American Revolution # 138122, Order of Founder and Patriots of America # 5018, US Naval Cryptologic Veteran Association, Airstream Travel Club. He was retired as a US Civil Servent. Mr.Hudson was a member of Disciples of Christ (Christian Church) and was the widower of Sara Denham Hudson who died in 1996.Surviving are two sons Michael Hudson of Falls Church, VA, and William Hudson of Sterling, VA.Burial and services will be held at Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, VA.Memorials services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on March 24, 2008 in Tryon Estates Auditorium with Rev. Ralph Kuether officiating.
