James Thomas Green, III, died from natural causes at his home in Saluda, NC, on January 9, 2018, at the age of 67. Jim was born in Columbia, SC, graduated from Dreher High School, and received an Associates Degree from the University of South Carolina. He was preceded in death by his parents, Mary Wright Shand Green and Dr. James T. Green, Jr., sisters Julie and Sally Green, his dear family friend, Janie Wolfe, and his two best canine companions, Salty Dog and Kojak. Surviving are brother Bill Green and wife Nancy of Winston-Salem, NC, brother Peter Green and wife Mary Ann, of Atlanta, GA, nieces and nephews Steve and Tom Nuzum, Rebecca, Sarah and Elizabeth Green, Susan Burley and Terri Trotter, brother-in-law Rick Nuzum, plus many Shand, Coles, Price, Grier, Wingfield, Mitchell and Landis cousins.Jim was a big man with a sweet and gentle soul. He was known by many as a quiet and reserved person, but his laughter could fill a room, his sense of humor was sharp, his skills at Trivial Pursuit were legendary, he was a spelling-bee champion, and his pun-manship was unparalleled. He was a prolific reader and writer and never failed to send a birthday card.For many years, Jim received life-changing home health assistance from the Community Alternatives Program for Disabled Adults, administered by Libby Carter through St. Luke's Hospital in Tryon, NC. Libby, other medical professionals, and a series of loyal and caring home-health aides made it possible for Jim to live safely and independently in a place he loved. The Green family will be forever grateful for this amazing program and its truly remarkable staff.A celebration of Jim's life well-lived will be held at a future date.
