Columbus, NC - The Reverend James Reynolds Crook, 90, of Columbus, NC died Wednesday February 9, 2011 in Columbus after a brief illness.He was born in Spartanburg, SC and was the son of Walker Reynolds and Helen Reed Crook. He was a graduate of Davidson College (1942) and Union Theological Seminary (1947). Mr. Crook also served as an Army Infantry officer in WWII and in the Chaplaincy Corps during the Korean War. He was a pastor in the Presbyterian Church for over 35 years, serving churches in NC, TN, GA, and SC.Surviving include his wife of 63 years, Jean Hooper Crook; a son, Arthur Crook (Joanne) of Johannesburg, S.A.; 4 daughters, Virginia Haas (Mike) of Burke, VA , Polly Robinson (Banks) of Columbia, SC, Catherine Woodcock (Stan) of McLean, VA, and Fran Crook of Durham, NC. He is also survived by 6 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, February 12, 2011 in the Tryon Presbyterian Church, Tryon, NC, with Dr. Dent Davis officiating.The family will receive friends immediately following the service in the fellowship hall.
