LANDRUM, SC - Hollis Stanford Constance, 89, of Moss Lane, Landrum, SC passed away, Sunday, November 29, 2009 at his home.Born in Polk County, NC, he was the son of the late Clayton and Katherine Walker Constance. Mr. Constance retired as a Chief Petty Officer from the U.S. Navy having served during both WWII and the Korean Conflict. He retired from Goodyear in Spartanburg, SC as plant engineer in l986. He later owned and operated Compleat Machine Works in Spartanburg. Hollis was a member of Grace Baptist Church, Landrum Masonic Lodge #278, and the Scottish Rite. Surviving are: his wife, Mary Katherine Byars Constance; 4 sons, Burton Constance of Merrills Inlet, SC, Wesley Constance of Verona, OR, Mike Constance of CA and Jeff Constance of Landrum, SC; one daughter, Mary Cantrell of Columbus, NC and one brother Bob Constance of Lynn, NC. Also surviving are numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, December 2, 2009 in the McFarland Funeral Chapel with Rev. Steve Wise officiating. Masonic rites will be conducted by the Landrum Masonic Lodge #278 and military rites by the Polk County Burial Squad.
