Obituary

Saluda – Hilda Holland Pace, 79, of Saluda, passed away unexpectedly Sunday evening August 27, 2023.

She was a lifelong resident of Saluda, the town she loved dearly, she was the daughter of the late Glen Holland and Eunice Revis Holland Skinner.  She was a graduate of Saluda High School where she met and married the late Gerald (Jerry) Pace who passed away in 1993.

After marrying her husband, she worked many years in the family businesses that were a once prominent in Saluda, these were A & G Market, Pace Oil Company, and the Gulf Gas Station.  She had many other jobs but retired from Pardee Hospital.  Hilda was a very active member of the Saluda United Methodist Church; she was known for her flower arrangements that were made of flowers she proudly gathered from her many flower gardens.  Gardening was her passion and she loved sharing her plants and flowers with family, friends and those who simply stopped to admire her yard.  She also enjoyed anything in nature. When asked if she had any pets she would reply "yes", and then name all the different wildlife animals that lived in her yard.  She loved all birds especially hummingbirds.  Hilda had a special gift with children.  She enjoyed volunteering with the after-school program at Saluda Elementary School where she assisted students with their homework and reading.  She donated the space that is now The Mountain Page Community Theater and Home of the YAK (Youth Acting Krew).  She adored the children of YAK and loved hearing them playing outside between their rehearsals.

She is survived by her brother Mickey Holland of Saluda and her two daughters, Hope Pace (Curtis) of Saluda and Faith P. Mitchell (William) of Charlotte.   Although she was known to have a tough exterior, she was a mother figure, counselor, and cheerleader to many more.

Her celebration of life will be held on Friday, September 1, 2023, at 11:00 am at the Saluda United Methodist Church with Reverand Rob Parson and her cousin Mr. Steve Revis officiating.

Family and Friends are asked to gather at the home after the service.

Memorials may be made to C.A.M.S. (Christian Agricultural Missions Service) Post Office Box 111, Hendersonville 28793, CAMS-Haiti-Revis.com or to The Mountain Page Community Theater,  Post Office Box 1089, Saluda NC, 28773 www.mountianpagetheater .
