Hardy Odell Arrowood passed away on Wednesday, March 12, 2025 at the age of 83 in Spartanburg, South Carolina.
Hardy was born on October 22, 1941, in Yancey County, NC to Bart and Mae Arrowood.
Hardy enlisted to serve our country as a helicopter mechanic in the 5th Special Forces during the Vietnam War. Following his military service, Hardy worked in WNC as a skilled carpenter.
He met Evelyn Greene, who would soon become the love of his life. After getting married in 1964, Hardy and Evelyn had four children, LaHoya Ivey (Danny), Hardy Arrowood Jr. (Salina), Kevin Arrowood (Shelley), and Jeffery Arrowood (Kerry). They went on to have 16 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren, all of whom were Hardy's pride and joy. He is survived by three sisters, Ann Metcalf (Hubert), Geneva Ogle (Larry), Jeanette Pullum, and sister-in-law Mary Arrowood.
If you ever wanted to know where Hardy had gotten to, the answer was almost always "outside." Whether he was out in the field growing a huge, beautiful vegetable garden, out fishing at Lake Lure or Lake Jocassee, or in the woods during deer season. He was happiest when he was out in the sun and working with his hands. That is, as long as Nascar or football wasn't on TV. It made him even happier to share these hobbies with his grandchildren, and he has left them with his wealth of knowledge and countless cherished memories. Hardy was a genuinely kind and generous man. He will be remembered as someone who would be just as ready to give you the shirt off his back as he would give you a smile and a handshake.
Although we mourn Hardy's passing, we are comforted knowing the joy he feels now that he's been reunited with Evelyn. In addition to his parents and Evelyn, he was preceded in death by brothers Bud Arrowood and Pearson Arrowood, sister Vera Arrowood, granddaughters Kira Gordon and Jessica Arrowood, and grandson Trevor Arrowood.
Hardy and Evelyn desired to have their life celebrated together. A Celebration of Life Picnic will be May 17, 2025 at Pleasant Ridge Park 4232 Hwy 11 Marietta, SC 29661 (Shelter #3) at 12pm.
