Tryon, NC - Guthrie (Gus) Friend Alvarez Arcaro, 84, of Tryon, NC passed away August 14, 2014.She was born in Romney, West Virginia, August 23, 1929 to the late Bill and Elsie Friend. She was the last of her family, reuniting with her brothers William (Bill), Lysle (Jake), and Richard (Dick).Guthrie worked forty years in various branches of the Federal government in Washington, DC. She was a member of St. Andrew's United Methodist Church, Annapolis, MD.No one will miss her more than her beloved and best caregivers-daughter Trudy, son-in-law Rusty VanVoorhis and her faithful dog Jack of Tryon, NC. She is survived by her devoted friend Bernard (Nip) Watson, sister-in-law Bonnie Friend, all of her nephews, nieces and all their angelic children whom she dearly loved.At Guthrie's request, she will be interred privately with family in Swanton, MD.In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Foothills Humane Society, P.O.
