Columbus, NC - Grant Fredrick Thomas, 85, of Columbus, NC passed away Wednesday December 25, 2013 at his home.Born February 24, 1928 in Milwaukee, WI he was the son of the late Kenneth and Gladys Thomas. He was the widower of Dolores Thomas who died in l993. An avid golfer, he moved to Polk Co. in 1990 from Pittsburgh, PA. Grant was a member of Red Fox Country Club and volunteered with Meals on Wheels for a number of years. He was a member of Holy Cross Episcopal Church, Tryon, NC where he had served as an usher for many years.Surviving are his daughter, Diane Torres (George) of Dekalb, IL; son, David Thomas (Lynnann Nysted-Thomas) of Sugar Camp, WI and companion Marjean Monahan of Spartanburg, SC. Also surviving are five grandchildren: Jennifer, Christina, Rachel, Andy and Julie as well as two great-grandchildren, Xavier and Carmen. Memorial services will be held 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, December 31, 2013 in the Holy Cross Episcopal Church, Tryon, NC with Father Mickey Mugan officiating.Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, P.O.
