Columbus, NC -- Dr. Grace Ross Spanjer, 92, 0f Laurel Lake Dr., Tryon Estates, Columbus, NC, died Sunday, November 26, 2006 at her home.. Dr. Ross was born in Jersey City, NJ, and was the daughter of the late Frank Bauman and Grace Mary Rochat Ross. She received her BA degree in 1936 from Mt. Holyoke College in South Hadley, MA, her M.D. degree in 1940 from NY University School of Medicine, where she was a member of the Honor Society and AOA. Dr. Spanjer practiced medicine and resided with her family in Cedartown, GA for 33 years. After retirement she resided in Sea Island, GA for 5 years, Dalton, GA for 2 years and Dunnellon, FL for 11 years before moving to Tryon Estates in Columbus, NC in 1993. .Surviving is her husband, Dr.Raymond Franklin Spanjer of Tryon Estates, Columbus, NC. Four sons, Dr. Richard F. Spanjer and his wife Patricia of Dalton, GA, Robert R. Spanjer and his wife, Gloria of Charlotte, NC, R. Allen Spanjer of New York City, NY and R. Paul Spanjer of Eldorado Springs, CO. Also surviving are 7 grandchildren."Dr. Ross" will be remembered for her compassion, generosity and humor. Local services will be held at a later date.
