Gladys Quinn Lingerfelt, 90,of White Oak Manor, Tryon andRural Hall, N.C., departed thislife on Friday, Feb. 5, 2010. She was born in McDowell County,N.C., on July 14, 1919, the tenthof 12 children born to Hicks S.and Mattie Woody Quinn. Herhusband of 50 years, Garland M.Lingerfelt, passed away in 1992.A son, Michael Lee Lingerfelt,predeceased her in 2004. Mrs. Lingerfelt is survived by her children, Sharon Edwards (John), of Mooresville, N.C.; Gerald Q. Lingerfelt (Brenda) of Canton,Ga.; Betty Jo Key (Hugh) of Tryon; and daughter-in-law JoanneBrasco Lingerfelt of Fairfax, Va.,as well as grandchildren JasonKey, Raleigh, N.C.; Kristin KeyBolick, Huntersville, N.C.; KateL. Wilson, Houston, Texas; BrianLingerfelt, Atlanta, Ga.; AmandaLingerfelt, Atlanta, Ga.; KevinLingerfelt, San Francisco, Calif.;Rebecca Lingerfelt, Richmond,Va., and five great-grandchildren.She is also survived by brother JoeR. Quinn of San Antonio, Texas,and many nieces and nephews. Mrs. Lingerfelt graduated inone of the first Licensed PracticalNurse (LPN) programs in ForsythCounty, N.C., and followed thatcalling for many years. She was anactive citizen of her community formore than 40 years, being a chartermember of Forsyth Lady LionsClub, serving as president of NorthForsyth High School PTA and asan election volunteer, and SundaySchool teacher and choir memberof Rural Hall Baptist Church formany years. Mrs. Lingerfelt wasan avid golfer and painter and abeloved mother and grandmother. A memorial service will beheld at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 9 inthe Chapel of Holy Cross EpiscopalChurch, Tryon. A graveside service will be held in the spring at Rural Hall, N.C.
