Tryon, NC- Gertrude Dusenbury passed away peacefully on October 7, 2006 at St. Luke's Hospital, Columbus, NC in the loving care of St. Luke's staff, family, and friends. She was born on April 14, 1914 in Breckenridge, PA. Gertrude's love of tennis and swimming started as a child in Lansing, MI. She was a 1932 graduate of Lansing Central High School where she competed on both the tennis and swim teams. She met and married Bob Gregorie, designer of the Ford Motor Company's Lincoln Continental,(brother of the late Jeannette Ashmore of Tryon) and Lived in Grosse Pointe, MI until the early 1950's. After the marriage ended, she was visiting the Ashmore's in Tryon and was introduced to Charles Dusenbury. Gertrude and Chuck married in 1954 and lived in Pompano Beach, FL until they retired in the early 1970's to Tryon. Gertrude loved living in Tryon and was very involved with the Episcopal Church of the Holy Cross. She served on the flower guild for many years. She continued her love of playing tennis in the community and was an active member of the Tryon Swim Club. She volunteered her time at the St. Luke's Auxiliary and Exchange. Gertrude also loved gardening and her expert knowledge of orchids was well known by many. Gertrude was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Dusenbury in November 1999. She is survived by her sister-in-law, Jane Dusenbury Culberson of Tryon; her stepson, Christopher Dusenbury of Boca Raton, Florida; nephews George Dusenbury III and John Dusenbury of Atlanta, Philip Dusenbury of Tryon and nieces Adele Dusenbury of Stony Brook, New York, Elizabeth Ashmore of Atlanta, Jan Ashmore Jackson and Beverly Ashmore Moore of Tryon. A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, October 29, 2006 in the Episcopal Church of the Holy Cross, Tryon, NC.
